"There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else." - Sam Walton, Travis Biggert
I used to believe business was about making money, for the sake of self-gain, to make it big with fancy cars, a nice house, and huge assets. But one day, my entrepreneurial adviser came to me and stated something two years ago, which I would never forget. He said one day, "Rashidi, entrepreneurship is not about the money." That day shocked my mind and I was extremely bewildered. I thought being an entrepreneur was for everything I stated above, but rather it's not. It's the complete contrary as to why you become an entrepreneur.
The purpose of becoming an entrepreneur is to solve problems and issues of the market that you choose for your customers. You must be able to look at society as a whole, all of the various industries, choose one, and go in there and solve problems. This is what makes a true entrepreneur. In LeapIn Week 2, we learned about the difference between an entrepreneur and an inventor. Examples were brought up of Nikola Tesla, Elon Musk, also this company called Segway, and even Google. Segway and Google both created products from an inventor's perspective because they invented something just simply to invent it, rather than actually solving an issue. Google created the Google glasses with anticipation that their customers would buy it, but they failed miserably. Also Segway spent millions of dollars on product development, but were only able to sell about 30,000 units and that took 7 years. This is why it's important to solve customer problems and issues in order to sell properly. The scooter was a perfect example as well as Warby Parker sunglasses. These were two products which were designed to help the customer and by doing that they were able to get millions of dollars in sales.
The problem I am trying to solve is workplace stress, which is classified as one of the various stressors which causes tension or strain in the Canadian nation. Also doing my best to reduce absenteeism which is a condition that Canadians face when they are absent from work due to chronic illnesses. I plan on solving this issue for my customer which are small to medium sized businesses by running stress management workshops to empower employees to learn creative skills through music and teaching them about stress, stressors, and stress management in order for them to have efficient and prosperous lives. Through solving this problem I hope to gain customer loyalty, referrals, and make an impact on Canada as a whole!! Hope you enjoyed my blog and stay tuned for updates!! Peace :)
