"Learning the law, so I can comply, to make good money and be that guy." - RKease Company
The music industry has been a very interesting place in order to learn how to navigate in, and learn about so that I can be able to exploit, commercialise, and profit off of my creative works and contrivances. Luckily for me, I am a student entrepreneur and I am a human resources student, learning the nuances and intersections of business, law, psychology, organisational behaviour, economics, etc. This has propelled me to be an astute student at learning the intricacies of the music industry so that I can be able to make sound decisions as an indie artist-entrepreneur.

The first aspect of legal compliance that I have come across in the music industry is contract law and the ability to agree to certain contracts to make sure that I can create musical works that I can exploit and commercialise without being penalised. For example, using the work of artificial intelligence, I was able to create a contract with my music business partner and friend Francis for the instrumental he created for a song that I am going to release called "Gwalla". This song is about having money, creating revenue streams and what are the issues of not having money and how it affects your overall mood, mental, and emotional well-being.
Due to the Berne Convention, which was a convention which occurred in Geneva Switzerland held in the Swiss city of 1886. Copyright law is imperative to understand in order to grasp the music industry, since your creating music and that's considered a product of the mind. Intellectual property is the reason why we have contracts set up in place in order to collaborate on derivative works, which are called songs or even better yet products. Therefore me and Francis had to have a contract in place to have a sound working relationship because I am using his intellectual property which is called a song and product.
This was all taught through copyrighting my first song, which is called "Step", I learned the intricacies of intellectual property law and that's how I was able to create an artist-producer split sheet, which will be the legal framework needed to submit my professional work into the intellectual property office and stimulate creativity and innovation. Since, Francis is under a treaty country of Nigeria, he'll be able to be eligible to be registered for the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and it will be official.

There are various reasons as to why I must always be legally compliant with my music venture. The first reason and one of the more obvious ones is to minimise disputes and minimise risk with my venture. As I am building my business, it's important to have all these activities set up in legal frameworks so that I can be as professional as possible and continue my business with integrity. "Good faith" is an important consideration when signing a contract and I have to make sure that when I have these legal frameworks in place it will decrease the chances of me being sued and having copyright infringement or any issues with partners that I conduct business with. Also, it helps me build a solid reputation, which is one of, if not the most important asset to a business. Overall, I hope to continue learning more about music legalities and copyright law to further my venture and I thank everyone for reading my blog. I hope your day is full of rest, kindness, and ease! Peace!
