Workplace Stressors: Bullying

"One's dignity may be assaulted, vandalised and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered." - Michael J. Fox

Bullying at work, being bullied at work, life of a black man, when you're treated like dirt , diversity and inclusion, the next trend on earth, got to treat people well to get what your worth

For the next couple of days, I will be going through workplace stressors in order to speak on the hazards from an economic, health, and overall life problem if there is specific issues of stressors in the workplace. Throughout building my workshop and building my business, I was able to learn that there are various of amount of stressors which can trigger the stress response in an individual. Technically by scientific terms a stressor is whenever something occurs to someone that can threaten your body's homeostasis.

One of my favourite sources to graft information from when it comes to workplace stress is Canadian Occupational Health and Safety, since it's reliable and consistent when it comes to the hazards of workplace wealth. Here's the definition of bullying!!

"Bullying is usually seen as acts or verbal comments that could psychologically or 'mentally' hurt or isolate a person in the workplace. Sometimes, bullying can involve negative physical contact as well. Bullying usually involves repeated incidents or a pattern of behaviour that is intended to intimidate, offend, degrade or humiliate a particular person or group of people. It has also been described as the assertion of power through aggression." - Canadian Occupational Health & Safety

Bullying is a serious issue that's prevalent in the workplace and a major stressor for so many reasons. Attitudes and dispositions from employers on how they treat their staff are imperative to their overall growth of the company and its culture. People are human beings first and not performance workhorses. Therefore if you bully employees and think it's cool, some fad, it will lead to eventual economic and healthcare consequences which can lead to legal costs for your business and settlements that your going to have to incur to the employees, which I will be speaking about primarily on the next blog, since that's been an issue in the community which I have been living in. Here are some for health concerns from Canadian Occupational Health & Safety

  • Shock.

  • Anger.

  • Feelings of frustration and/or helplessness.

  • Increased sense of vulnerability.

  • Loss of confidence.

  • Physical symptoms such as:

    • Inability to sleep.

    • Loss of appetite

  • Psychosomatic symptoms such as:

    • Stomach pains.

    • Headaches.

    • Panic or anxiety, especially about going to work.

    • Family tension and stress.

    • Inability to concentrate.

    • Low morale and productivity.

These health issues are alarming and can do severe damage to an individual and even potentially lead to serious psychological and physiological issues. For example, at work I was framed personally by co-workers that I was being disrespectful, in an incident where I didn't want to offend my superior simply because the way she was speaking was irritating and inappropriate. Therefore, another co-worker came and threatened my life and it led to having a specific disputation with not only that co-worker but also management. As a result, it led me to being shocked and suffering specific symptoms which can be stated up there.

This is the reason why I am super passionate about RKease and attacking workplace stress because there are so many victims out there who are suffering from this issue and businesses who tolerate this behaviour will not only pay the pied piper, but can potentially ruin lives. I hope you have a great day, and stay tuned for tomorrow, because we are just getting started!! :)
