Stress Management: Hobbies

In my last blog for the series on stress management, I spoke on the importance of music and how music is a therapeutic option needed in order to entertain and relax the mind-body connection. Therefore it's important to listen to music in order to de-stress and feel relaxed in order to have a more sound reason, logic, and creativity skills. The next form of stress management is to have a hobby.


Hobbies are activities done regularly in one's leisure time or pleasure. These hobbies are especially important when it comes to relaxation and repose, so that your bodily systems can function optimally once applied and you can feel refreshed. The slogan for the RKease company is rest is reason, meaning the ability for someone to have repose, relax, and rejuvenate themselves in order to have optimal logic, creativity, rational and executive functioning skills. Therefore it's important to have hobbies so that you can be able to have that relaxation in your everyday life. What effects do hobbies have on your health and what are some examples of some hobbies, let's go into some more understanding and examples. For the health benefits, here is a list of some.


  • Lower blood pressure

  • Lower cortisol levels

  • Reduces burnout

  • Higher levels of psycho-social states

  • Lower levels of depression

  • Experiencing Eustress

  • Lift your mood, give you a sense of joy

  • Leads to gratifications reducing stress

  • Can help buffer the effects of a stressful job

These are some health benefits which hobbies are able to do for your mind-body connection that's why it's important to participate in them. When you have a better psychological state, you can perform better physiologically and vice versa. This is what hobbies are able to do for you, and now let's list some of the best hobbies that you can do to reduce stress.




  • Walking: Reduces overthinking and reduces rumination over a stressful situation

  • Yoga: Positive way to build strength, can reduce stress response, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety

  • Reading: You can escape from your reality, reduce muscle tension, slowing your heart rate down

  • Gardening: Improves your mood, stress hormones called cortisol, helps your attention span

  • Hiking: Good for cardiovascular health, can help reduce your heart disease and high blood pressure and stroke

  • Playing Chess: Develops perspective, elevates creativity, increases self-awareness

Overall, hobbies are amazing for meaning and fun in order and can help you find meaning and purpose in your life.
