Stress Management: Walking

"Walking is man's best medicine" - Hippocrates

On my last blog, I spoke on the benefit of hobbies and how hobbies are a form of stress management which enables you to relax, repose, have calm, and have fun at the same time. Having hobbies enables you to be able to find meaning in the little things and also helps you find a sense of purpose as well. Now that we spoke on hobbies, let's speak on some hobbies which are beneficial and are a form of stress management as well, which is the power of walking.

I wake up at 5 am in the morning each and every day and go for walks in order to de-stress, clear my head and start building momentum for the day. Therefore walking is one of my main personal stress management tools and I am a personal advocate for it. There are so many benefits to walking, especially in nature in order to relieve your stress, but I just want to share my personal story as to why I walk everyday. I was in a tough time in my life and I was going through so many emotions as to why my life was in not in my control due to the adversity I was going through. My thoughts were sporadic, I was out of shape, and my equilibrium was completely sideways. Then I remembered my mom always telling me about how she used to walk at a near park in Houston, where we used to live and I thought that it was a good idea to start small to get in shape and to be able to unload all of my negative thoughts.


Therefore, I was able to do just that with walking, after walking everyday for 5 months I found so many health benefits in terms of psychological and physiologically that benefited my whole well-being and autonomy. Here are some of the health benefits that I was able to experience in this list below!

  • Lost Weight

  • Strengthened cardiovascular system

  • Strengthened bones and muscles

  • Improved mental health

  • Received inspiration

  • Uncluttered thoughts

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Boosted immunity

  • Improved mood

Through walking I have generated valuable experiences and was able to get my life back on track by simply implementing this stress management technique! Walking has been beneficial for me in so many ways, and I hope it can be for you too as well. Those are all the benefits I was able to get from walking, and many more as well which are not listed here, but I hope this story influences you to start your walking journey as well.
