"The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation." - Henry David Thoreau

Resign, resign, why'd I have to quit, well my company's toxic, I have to admit

In my last blog, I spoke about workplace stressors being a serious issue in the workplace and toxic company culture being another factor with that. For this blog, before I go in depth into the factors which create a toxic company culture, I want to expound on the "Great Resignation", what it is and how toxic company cultures have been a catalyst to it.

According to an article, by "The Street" (https://www.thestreet.com/dictionary/g/great-resignation-big-quit-great-reshuffle), actually called the "Big Quit or the Great Reshuffle - is an ongoing phenomenon involving employees voluntarily leaving their jobs unprecedented numbers. "According to most, this phenomenon officially began around 2020 or early 2021, after the quit rate (number of monthly resignations divided by total employment) dropped sharply during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic due to a shortage of work as a result of large-scale shutdowns."

Now I am going to breakdown the Great Resignation over the course of more blogs throughout the weeks because it strengthens my value proposition to be able to provide my service to business because it's a serious issue within the North American economy. Now throughout doing more research, I have found an article by MIT Sloan School of Management that specifically justifies that toxic company culture is a serious factor which is a catalyst to the Great Resignation, and it's the strongest indicator to a toxic corporate culture. Here are some quotes from the article which are staggering that are exemplifying this, "failure to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, workers feeling disrespected, unethical behaviour.....for now, the most important point is that toxic culture is the biggest factor pushing employees out the door during the Great Resignation."

This is exactly, why I stated that a toxic workplace environment is important to be able to spot and is a major stressor to employees all across the North American economy because it hurts them at work and in their own personal lives. Stay tuned next week, as I go more in depth into what creates a toxic workplace culture and the impacts that these issues have on the workplace, economy, healthcare, and all else. Have a great weekend and peace!! :)
