"The need for community is primal, as fundamental as the need for air, water, and food." - Dean Ornish

When people have your back it's such a great feeling, you can lean on for support and for healing.

Community, Community, with the intent to bring people in unity. This is one of the most powerful and greatest forms of stress management. We as human beings are social, emotional creatures which have an innate characteristic within to be able to connect and bond. From the beginning of time with ancient civilisations such as the Tower of Babel when the whole world was one language, to the indigenous community tribes, which later formed into cities, towns, states, provinces, countries, churches, companies, organisations. All of these things at the root are started from building a community.

When it comes to stress and stress management a community can help you so much when it comes to alleviating symptoms for various reasons. According to Mayo Clinic, these are some of the benefits that having a support system can help you with, (https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/stress-management/in-depth/social-support/art-20044445), such as

  • Improving the ability to cope with stressful situations

  • Alleviating the effects of emotional distress

  • Promoting lifelong good mental health

  • Enhancing self-esteem

  • Lowering cardiovascular risks, such as lowering blood pressure

  • Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours

  • Encouraging adherence to a treatment plan

These benefits and many more help you tremendously when it comes to stress reduction and I have so many practical examples as to where a community helped reduce my stress, and this summer was the LeapIN Summer Business Accelerator. Being an entrepreneur is extremely stressful and takes a lot out of you, especially when you are building your business and trying to make your hopes come to fruition. Three days a week being able to meet with other business owners and founders in order to where they progressed in their business and all of the struggles they've had to endure and overcome in order to get to where they were at today. Also being able to speak to community business leaders and hearing their stories consistently was definitely uplifting because I was able to get a real life perspective on what it takes to make it in business and survive. This certainly reduced my stress in building my business because whenever I had issues or worries, I would lean on someone and they would persuade me to think otherwise which was great!

Overall, support systems are beneficial to reduce stress and manage it because on of the main purposes of human life is to be able to connect with other humans and build tribes within this wonderful earth. With that being said, thank you for reading this blog and hope you have a great rest of the day, stay tuned for tomorrow, peace!! :)
